On Wednesday, Nomura Securities announced that it has started coverage on CBS Corporation (CBS).
The firm has initiated coverage on CBS with a “Buy” rating and $75 price target. This price target suggests a 23% increase from Tuesday’s closing price of $60.65.
Analyst Anthony DiClemente commented: “As the leader in broadcast television, CBS appears well equipped to skilfully transition its business to a digital future. We see two main reasons to own the stock: (1) We believe CBS is the best stock in Media to own on the theme of 2014E capital returns, owing to its publicly announced 1H14 IPO of CBS Outdoor; and (2) CBS continues to transition its revenue stream towards recurring monthly affiliate fees and in our view, higher visibility warrants a higher multiple. We consider these drivers to be underappreciated by investors, as CBS trades at a moderate discount to its Media peers on our estimates. Valuation Methodology: Target 2015E P/E of 19x. FY13E EPS at $2.99; FY14E EPS at $3.45.”

Comcast's (NASDAQ: CMCSA ) NBC Sports will be carrying the event and reaping the rewards as fans in two major markets tune in for the action. Disney (NYSE: DIS ) and Google (NASDAQ: GOOG ) will also see some benefits.

By concentrating resources and management on the cable network business and shaking off Rupert Murdoch print segment, the firm was able to boost its EBITDA growth as well as its return on capital (ROC). The current metrics of 28.80% and 154% respectively are quite impressive and will be highly beneficial for investors if they can be sustained.

At the time, NDS Group was 80% owned by News Corp (NWSA) and they were providing the smart cards for all Direct TV (DTV) receivers. Further, they were one of only three smart card providers and one of their competitors, Canal Plus a Vivendi subsidiary, was struggling with maintaining the security of their smart card systems which they were providing to non-News Corp television companies throughout Europe. It seems that the access codes on their systems were turning up on the internet and bootleggers were stealing the signals. EcoStar, which would later be spun off by DISH, was making the same claims back in the 1990s. Both companies maintained that News Corp, acting through its subsidiary NDS Group, was the culprit. To make a long story short, Canal Plus filed a multi-billion dollar lawsuit against News Corp and later on EcoStar would follow suit.

Time Warner Cable investors will receive 2.875 Comcast stock for each of their shares. The purchase values each Time Warner Cable share at almost $160.Analysts say the consolidation could help Comcast to compete with satellite providers like DirecTV (DTV), wireless phone companies like AT&T (T) and new streaming services like Netflix (NFLX). On the other hand, Comcast will not have to take on any new debt, because it is an all-stock deal with newly issued shares.

Andrew Harrer/Bloomberg via Getty Images WASHINGTON -- The U.S. government has sued AT&T, alleging the No. 2 U.S. wireless carrier sold consumers unlimited data plans but would reduce their Internet speeds once they exceeded a certain amount of data. The Federal Trade Commission said Tuesday that this throttling of Internet feeds was deceptive and that in some cases data speeds were slowed by nearly 90 percent. FTC Chairwoman Edith Ramirez said that AT&T (T) wanted to retain longtime customers and so allowed them to buy unlimited data plans, in some cases after new customers were no longer offered unlimited plans. Then they unilaterally changed the terms, she said. "They stopped providing the service that customers understood they had purchased when they entered into their contract," she said. "Customers would be subject to an early termination fee if they wanted to get out of their existing contract." AT&T called the allegations "baseless" and said the practice was needed to manage network resources. "We have been completely transparent with customers since the very beginning," said Wayne Watts, AT&T's general counsel. "This program has affected only about 3 percent of our customers, and before any customer is affected, they are also notified by text message." More than 3.5 million customers with legacy unlimited data plans had their Internet speeds slowed more than 25 million times by AT&T's practice, which began in October 2011, the FTC said. AT&T says on its support website that people with certain plans can experience data slowdowns once they exceed certain limits. Customers with a 3G smartphone will experience slowdowns after using 3 gigabytes of data in a month, while those with 4G LTE smartphones can use 5 gigabytes before potential slowdowns. Those who dislike the throttling can use Wi-Fi or switch to a different plan, AT&T says on its website. AT&T closed up 0.6 percent at $34.33 a share. Federal Communica
