Gold is showing signs of life after a rough 2013. Is time to buy atomic number 79, or is the yellow metal just shaking out before the next leg lower? Let's see what the charts have to say using iStock's 3T technical analysis technique.
As you can see on the chart below, Au is short-term bullish, but still had another hurdle to clear before establishing long-term bullish status.
On the bullish side, the yellow metal's price and its 12 and 26-day moving averages (MA) have crossed above the 50-day benchmark. It is positive for future price movements when the MAs line up with the shortest on top and longest on the bottom.
Longer-term, Gold is still below its 200-day moving average. As a rule of thumb, it is considered long-term bullish when prices are above the 200-day mark and bearish when below.

Yet in the pharmaceutical space, J&J has had great success. The approval of its Invokana treatment for type 2 diabetes bodes well for the company, as Invokana's approach to treating the disease is completely different from that of competing products. In particular, Merck's (NYSE: MRK ) Januvia appears to have some substantial disadvantages compared to the drug, and with Januvia's patent set to expire in a few years, Invokana could have an even clearer path to success in the future. J&J also has a promising pipeline. Its rheumatoid arthritis drug sirukumab may bring J&J and partner GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE: GSK ) billions in additional revenue if the drug gets approved.

On the bright side, GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE: GSK ) and Theravance (NASDAQ: THRX ) received a much-expected drug approval for once-daily inhaled COPD maintenance treatment Breo Ellipta from the Food and Drug Administration. Having proved non-inferior to the placebo in trials, and delivering a favorable safety profile while reducing flare-ups and helping relieve air flow obstruction, Breo Ellipta has a good shot at being a blockbuster drug within the next couple of years. Breo Ellipta is expected to be available to patients next quarter. In addition, as I've alluded to on numerous occasions, it could be the impetus that encourages Glaxo to gobble up Theravance's Royalty Management -- one of two proposed entities that Theravance plans to split into. This is certainly a big win for both companies.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Jim Royal]
I'm about to buy shares in Investors Bancorp (NASDAQ: ISBC ) , a soon-to-demutualize thrift that is undervalued. The thrift has quickly grown assets since it went public in 2005 and, with improving credit metrics and a solid return on equity, the bank is ready to make the final leap to full public ownership. So my Special Situations portfolio will acquire shares shortly. Here's why I like the stock.

He also pointed out that the approaching completion of Roma Financial (ROMA) and Investors Bancorp (ISBC) has some interesting implications for bank stock investors. Both are mutual holding companies, and the newly formed bank is expected to complete the process and do a second-step conversion offering. That will be a fairly large deal, much larger than most second-step offerings, as the combined banks should be somewhere around $3 billion in market cap. There will be larger investment banks involved, complete with road shows and institutional meetings to promote the deal. The attention could well cause a revaluation of the mutual holding company and converted thrift sector of the banking market.

Only one company convincingly jumped thru all the hoops: C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc. (CHRW).

Not as well known, but just as well-placed to profit from increasing exports, is C.H. Robinson Worldwide (NASDAQ: CHRW).
Based in Minnesota, C.H. Robinson Worldwide offers global transportation services. Itis one of the largest holdings of Mairs & Power Growth, an excellent mutual fund that has a fondness for companies in Minnesota. Others include Hormel (NYSE: HRL) and 3M (NYSE: MMM). That is fine company for a medium cap like C.H. Robinson Worldwide to be associated with.
